Chocolate, Chocolate And Some More Chocolate!
This is the craziest cake I have ever eaten. My mum made me this amazing, delicious and seriously dangerous chocolate cake on my 19th birthday surprise party and since then we decided to offer it at the cafe from time to time.
Especially on football weekends when the place opens up and screens Bundesliga games for a small, cheering crowd- serving mostly german beer and selfmade cake to customers(don´t try to understand the combination. We don´t. it´s cool if they like it).
And despite all predujices football (or call it soccer) is of some interest for the ladies aswell. My mum and me only watch the world cup, this year though she showed very little interest and believe it or not respect for the game as the turkish team was not to be seen on the field. It was seriously sad and disappointing and having a german boyfriend at the time REALLY didn´t help.
To get back to my point here is the recipe. Trust me it´s goooood.
DEVIL´S FOOD CAKE
Ingredients
1,5 cups unsalted butter
3/4 cup cocoa powder
1/2 cup boiling water
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda (natron)
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 1/4 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 tablesppoon vanilla extract (which reminds that my mum tries to make her own extract because we cannot find it in germany. She read it in some blog: you cut the vanilla into two halfs and fill it up with wodka. If it works out she´ll post it. If not, I will.)
1 cup whole milk
1) Preheat oven to 350 F (175°) and butter a approximately 8-inch round cake pan after lining it with baking paper.
First of all you mix together the cocoa powder with the boiling water and after it cooled down for like 2 minutes wisk in the milk.
In one bowl put together all the dry ingredients such as flour, baking soda and the baking powder.
In a different bowl wisk the butter and sugar on high speed and add the half beaten eggs to mixture.
2) Now wisk half of the cocoa mixture and half of the dry ingredients into the bowl, blending it well after each adjustment until all the ingredients are in one bowl. By now you can adjust the vanilla exract.
3) At last fold the mixture into the prepared cake pan- you can eather use all of it at once and cut it into three layers later or just use three cake pans and divide the mixture by eye measure into three portions (which we prefer)- and transfer it into the oven.
4) Bake for 30-40 minutes.
yuuuuuummmmyyyyy!
