Jamie Oliver's Meat Loaf
So this is another recipe I tried from Jamie's cookbook which really surprised me. It tastes really really good, you guys! Here we go...
ingredients
3 carrots
olive oil
500 g minced beef
1 onion
100 g stale bread
1 large egg
oregano, dried
ingredients
3 carrots
olive oil
500 g minced beef
1 onion
100 g stale bread
1 large egg
oregano, dried
30 g feta cheese
3 red chillies
1 jar of passata
spaghetti
instructions
3 red chillies
1 jar of passata
spaghetti
instructions
- Start with the prep for carrots. Peel, quarter lenghtwise and place them in a oven resistant pan with olive oil and rosemary. Bake at 200° C (400° F) for 10 minutes.
- Blitz bread into breadcrumbs in food processor and place in a bowl. Add meat, oregano and crumbled feta and mix ingredients using your hand.
- Add egg and salt and pepper
- Shape mixture into a loaf and add to carrots (just form a hole in the pan - carrots are usually surrounding the meat).
- Cook for 20 minutes at 200° C.
- While the meat is getting sexy in your oven, get busy preparing the sauce. Deseed the hot and spicy chilies by cutting them lengthwise. (Try not to put your hand anywhere near your eyes while working with them. It's tempting, I know, but just... don't.) Place them in a pan with lots of olive oil and salt, fry until soft and take them out again.
- Using the same oil soaked pan roast onion and garlic.
- Now add the jar of passatas and oregano, and let them simmer until meat time is up.
- Take out the meat loaf, lift your carrots for a sec, add tomato sauce, and put them back again
- "Sprinkle" or place cheese onto the loaf and decorate with chilies. Now place it back into your oven.
- Boil salt water and cook as much spaghetti, as much as you like. When ready (I like al dente) place onto plates and take out meat loaf.
- Using a goof knife cut the loaf into slices, thick slices.
- Put two or three slices on top of spaghetti and pour some sauce to it.
- Don't try to be brave and eat that chili. Think of it as not-eatable. That would be best for you, dear reader.
